• Type 722 Black Pigment for Concrete – Iron Oxide Black, 200 g

Type 722 is a strongly colouring powdered black iron oxide pigment for colouring concrete, cement, mortar and other compatible mineral compounds.

It is suitable for art, design, decorative casting, crafts and construction projects. The pigment can be used to colour the entire mix, cast figures, create marble and layered effects, apply coloured surface layers or prepare cement-based decorative paints. The manufacturer describes Type 722 as strongly colouring and lightfast.

Colour – Iron Oxide Black

Pigment designation: Iron Oxide Black Type 722.

The final shade depends on:

  • the colour of the cement or casting compound;
  • pigment dosage;
  • aggregates used;
  • water content;
  • mix composition;
  • surface finish.

By varying the dosage, Type 722 can be used to produce anything from grey and anthracite shades to much darker concrete. The pigment alone does not necessarily produce an absolute pitch-black finish, as the colour of the cement and aggregates has a substantial influence on the final result.

Dosage

The manufacturer's maximum recommended dosage for concrete and cement-based mortars is:

up to 5% of the cement weight in the mix.

For example:

  • if 100 kg of concrete contains approximately 20 kg of cement;
  • 5% of 20 kg = 1 kg of pigment;
  • the maximum recommended dosage would therefore be approximately 1 kg per 100 kg of this concrete mix.

The 5% recommendation refers to the cement content, not the total weight of the concrete.

Lower quantities are generally sufficient for grey or anthracite shades. Test a small batch first when an exact colour is required.

How to Use

  1. Weigh the required amount of pigment.
  2. Add it to the dry concrete, mortar or mineral compound.
  3. Mix thoroughly until evenly distributed.
  4. Add the specified amount of water.
  5. Mix and cast as usual.

Suitable For

  • decorative concrete;
  • casting concrete;
  • cement-based mortars;
  • compatible mineral plasters and grouts;
  • black and anthracite decorative castings;
  • figures and sculptures;
  • marble and layered effects;
  • thin coloured surface layers;
  • cement-based decorative paints;
  • indoor and outdoor concrete projects.

The 5% dosage recommendation applies to cement-containing compounds. For gypsum or other non-cementitious materials, follow the instructions for the specific material and carry out a test first.
