Jesmonite AC730
Jesmonite® AC730 Base & Liquid
Jesmonite® AC730 is a fast-setting, water-based, acrylic polymer-modified cementitious micro-concrete casting system designed for strong decorative castings, sculptures, interior and outdoor projects.
AC730 offers low permeability, high mechanical strength and good resistance to weathering. The manufacturer specifies the material as suitable for outdoor use, damp environments and water-feature applications.
The material contains fine decorative aggregates and pigments. By additionally treating the surface with an acid-etching technique, the aggregates can be exposed to create a characteristic natural stone or concrete effect.
Two-Component System
Jesmonite® AC730 consists of two components:
- Jesmonite® AC730 Base – a mineral and cement-based powder blend;
- Jesmonite® AC730 Liquid – a water-based acrylic polymer liquid.
The components are mixed at a ratio of:
5 parts Base : 1 part Liquid by weight.
What Is Jesmonite® AC730 Suitable For?
AC730 can be used for:
- decorative vessels and trays;
- plant pots and garden decorations;
- sculptures and figurines;
- interior and outdoor elements;
- wall and architectural details;
- water features;
- candle vessels and candle holders, subject to appropriate finished-product testing.
Stone Effect & Acid Etching
When removed from a high-quality silicone mould, AC730 can have a relatively smooth and even surface. To expose the decorative aggregates within the material and create a more natural stone-like texture, an acid-etching technique can be used.
The manufacturer recommends:
- Allow the piece to cure for at least 24 hours.
- Wet the surface with water before etching.
- Use Jesmonite® Acid Etch or another suitable acidic solution.
- Monitor the etching process and rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water afterwards.
- Work in a well-ventilated area and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Household vinegar may also be used for etching AC730, but the required exposure time depends on the acid used, its concentration and the desired effect.
AC730 for Candle Vessels
Jesmonite® AC730 has a reaction-to-fire classification of A2-s1,d0, and the base material itself is non-combustible.
However, every finished candle construction should be tested individually. Vessel wall thickness, shape, wax, wick, fragrance concentration and any surface treatment can all affect performance during burning.
Any sealer or protective coating used on a candle vessel should also be assessed as part of the finished candle test.
Surface Protection
Where greater resistance to stains, water or environmental exposure is required, AC730 can be treated with a suitable Jesmonite® sealer.
For example, Jesmonite® Penetrating Sealer is designed for AC730 and other cement-based Jesmonite® systems and helps improve resistance to water, oil and various stains.
