Type 663 is a powdered iron oxide brown pigment for colouring concrete, cement, mortar and other compatible mineral compounds.

It is suitable for decorative casting, art, design, crafts and construction projects. The pigment can be used to colour the entire mix, cast coloured figures, create marble effects, apply thin coloured surface layers or prepare cement-based decorative paints. The manufacturer describes it as lightfast and compatible with cement-based systems.

The final intensity of the brown colour depends on:

• the colour of the cement or casting compound;
• pigment dosage;

White or pale cement will generally produce a cleaner pigment shade, while grey cement may create a darker, more muted brown.

Dosage

The manufacturer's maximum recommended dosage for concrete and cement-based mortar is:

up to 5% of the cement weight in the mix.

For example:

• 100 kg of concrete contains approximately 20 kg of cement;
• 5% of 20 kg = 1 kg of pigment;
• the maximum recommended quantity would therefore be approximately 1 kg of pigment per 100 kg of this concrete mix.

The 5% recommendation refers to the cement content, not the total weight of the concrete.

How to Use

The manufacturer recommends mixing the pigment into the dry compound before adding water.

1. Weigh the required amount of pigment.
2. Add it to the dry concrete, mortar or compatible mineral compound.
3. Mix thoroughly until the pigment is evenly distributed.
4. Add the specified amount of water.
5. Mix and cast as usual.
