RESLIN Biodegradable Resin

RESLIN® Biodegradable Plant-Based Resin

RESLIN® is a plant-based casting resin made from linseed oil and a natural activator based on sugar beet molasses. The manufacturer describes RESLIN® as a 100% biodegradable resin for creating decorative, functional and artistic objects. It is produced in Europe using raw materials of European origin.

The properties of a finished RESLIN® piece can be adapted by using different decorative aggregates. Pure RESLIN® used in a thinner layer may remain slightly flexible, while adding GlassRoxx®, glass granules, mica, Jesmonite® terrazzo chips or other fillers creates a harder, more rigid result with a different texture and appearance.

Two-Component System

RESLIN® consists of:

  • RESLIN® Oil – a linseed oil-based component;
  • RESLIN® Activator – a natural activator based on sugar beet molasses.

The components are mixed at a ratio of:

1 part Activator : 2 parts RESLIN® Oil.

How Is RESLIN® Cured?

RESLIN® is not a room-temperature curing epoxy resin – it requires heat curing in an oven.

According to the manufacturer's instructions:

  1. Warm RESLIN® Oil and Activator for 20 minutes at 60°C.
  2. Mix the components thoroughly.
  3. Pour the mixture into the mould and allow it to rest for 20 minutes.
  4. Heat the piece for 20 minutes at 90°C.
  5. Increase the temperature to 120°C and heat for another 20 minutes.
  6. Cool the piece and remove it from the mould.

After the heating process, the piece can be cooled, but it takes approximately 12 hours to fully harden and become ready for use. A microwave must not be used; the manufacturer recommends a convection oven.

RESLIN® & GlassRoxx®

GlassRoxx® glass granules give RESLIN® objects additional strength, rigidity, colour and texture. Different grain sizes and colours can be used to create subtle or more pronounced stone- and terrazzo-style finishes.

RESLIN® & Jesmonite® Terrazzo

RESLIN® can be combined with Jesmonite® terrazzo chips. Jesmonite® adds distinctive texture and contrasting inclusions, while RESLIN® binds them together to create a decorative finished piece.

The manufacturer provides specific ratios for combining RESLIN® with Jesmonite® terrazzo, so these projects should follow the relevant RESLIN® mixing guide.

RESLIN® & Mica

Mica flakes and pigment powders can add colour, pearlescent shimmer and reflective accents to RESLIN® creations.

Depending on the mica type and amount used, you can achieve anything from a subtle sheen to a more pronounced sparkling effect.

RESLIN® & Natural Additives

A range of dry natural materials can be incorporated into RESLIN®, including:

  • dried herbs;
  • coffee or coffee beans;
  • dried flowers and petals;
  • dried leaves;
  • shells;
  • small stones;
  • spices and other dry decorative materials.

Avoid materials containing water, such as fresh fruit, as well as water-based acrylic additives. Because RESLIN® is primarily oil-based, these materials are not compatible with the system.

Important Information

RESLIN® has not been tested for food-contact safety, and the manufacturer does not recommend using RESLIN® objects for hot drinks.

RESLIN® is not suitable for candle vessels, as direct flame may cause the material to burn. A casting material specifically suitable for candle applications should therefore be chosen instead.
