Gilding & Metal Leaf

Metal leaf and gilding supplies are designed to decorate surfaces with gold, silver, copper and other metallic effects. Gilding is an effective way to highlight ornaments, reliefs, edges and individual details, adding either a subtle shimmer or a bold metallic finish.

The technique can be used on a variety of properly prepared surfaces, including Jesmonite®, plaster, concrete, wood, paper, glass, ceramics, terracotta and other materials.

Use metal leaf to decorate trays, candle holders, boxes, figurines, vases, picture frames, reliefs and other interior and craft objects.

Metal Leaf & Flakes

Thin metal leaf sheets and flakes can be used to create:

• smooth metallic surfaces;
• irregular metallic accents;
• aged-metal effects;
• decorative fragments and ornaments;
• gold-, silver- and copper-coloured details.

Metal Leaf Adhesives & Primers

Metal leaf is applied to a specially prepared adhesive surface. Primer for Leaf Metal adhesives help delicate metal leaf and flakes adhere securely to the decorated surface.

Depending on the project, liquid, paste or marker-style adhesives can be used for larger areas, detailed designs or fine decorative lines.

Protective Varnishes

Finished gilded surfaces can be protected with a suitable protective varnish to help reduce oxidation and protect the decorative finish from environmental exposure.

Choose the protective coating according to the substrate and intended use of the finished object.

Gilding Brushes & Kits

Soft brushes make it easier to handle, position and gently press delicate metal leaf onto the surface and remove excess material.

For beginners, complete gilding kits are a convenient option and may include metal leaf, adhesive primer, protective varnish and suitable brushes.
