Type 360 is a strongly colouring powdered black iron oxide pigment for concrete, cement, mortar and other compatible mineral compounds.

It is distinguished by its particularly deep, slightly bluish black tone. It is suitable for decorative casting, art, design, crafts and construction projects. The manufacturer describes Type 360 as a strongly colouring and lightfast iron oxide pigment.

Type 360 can be used to create:

• deep black concrete;
• anthracite and dark grey shades at lower dosages;
• a slightly cooler, bluish black;
• marble and layered effects;
• dark decorative details.

The final depth of black depends not only on pigment dosage but also on the cement, aggregates, water content and surface finish.

Compared with standard Type 722 black iron oxide, Type 360 is intended to give a deeper, slightly bluish black. For an absolute pitch-black effect, carbon-black pigments can have greater colouring strength, although the manufacturer's technical guidance notes that iron oxide blacks such as Type 360 offer better long-term colour stability outdoors.

Dosage

The manufacturer's maximum recommended dosage for concrete and cement-based mortars is:

up to 5% of the cement weight in the mix.

For example:

• if 100 kg of concrete contains approximately 20 kg of cement;
• 5% of 20 kg = 1 kg of pigment;
• the maximum recommended dosage would therefore be approximately 1 kg per 100 kg of this concrete mix.

The 5% recommendation refers to the cement content, not the total concrete weight.

Much lower quantities can be used for grey and anthracite shades.

How to Use

1. Weigh the required amount of pigment.
2. Add it to the dry concrete, mortar or mineral compound.
3. Mix thoroughly until evenly distributed.
4. Add the specified amount of water.
5. Mix and cast as usual.

The 5% dosage recommendation applies to cement-containing compounds. For gypsum or other non-cementitious materials, test compatibility and colour on a small batch first.
